With the 59th annual Grammy Awards just days away, Kelly Clarkson took a look back at Grammys of the past and called the 2006 awards show the “worst/greatest day.”
This week Clarkson appeared on Billboard’s Pop Shop Podcast. The 34-year-old singer recalled the 2006 Grammys where she won the award for both Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. While it should have been a joyous night, Clarkson said she was overcame with emotions as earlier that morning she was told she had cancer.

“Not many people know this” the “Piece By Piece’ singer said. “But I was told that morning that I had cancerous results for something.”
Clarkson said she cried the whole day, so much so that “they redid my makeup four times.”
After she had won at music’s biggest night, Clarkson thought “oh my God, this is like God giving me one more thing before something horrible happens.”

Thankfully for Clarkson, the next day she found out that the results she was given were not actually hers, but rather somebody else’s.
Since her “worst/greatest day,” Clarkson has won a third Grammy Award and is up for Best Pop Solo Performance this year.
The 59th annual Grammy Awards take place Sunday, February 12 only on CBS.
