In a statement to People Monday (may 15), the reality show couple announced they have decided to call it quits on their relationship. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”
Higgins and Bushnell met during the 20th season of The Bachelor, which aired from January – March of 2016. In what has now become on of the most infamous moments in the show’s history, Higgins told the show’s two finalists, Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher – who would go on to later become The Bachelorette – that he loved them both.
Despite the controversial moment, Higgins proposed to Bushnell during the season finale of the show. The two soon thereafter began living together in Denver, Colorado.
Higgins and Bushnell revealed they were in couples counseling in October of last year.
